The TRUE ALPHA CHALLENGE at the Arnold Classic!
The True Alpha Challenge
Over the weekend of March 5 to 7, 2010, James, Rick and the True Alpha Team were in Columbus, OH for the 2010 Arnold Sports Festival and Arnold Classic bodybuilding extravaganza (www.arnoldsportsfestival.com) conducting the TRUE ALPHA CHALLENGE! Open to both men and women 18+, the contest was adapted from the MaleScale™ -- the revolutionary assessment tool in Alpha Male Challenge (Rodale, 2009). Contestants battled for prizes on the EXPO floor at the StrengthPro booth, as well as upstairs in the Convention Center at the Arnold Strength Summit. Rick and James were personally there, overseeing a team of volunteers organized by strength guru David Sandler of StrengthPro. There were three different challenges offered:
· How high can you jump?
· How many pushups can you do without stopping?
· How many kettlebell curls can you do (30 pounds for men, 15 pounds for women)?
Over the course of the weekend, hundreds of contestants pushed themselves hard to set personal bests. Here are the top finishers in each challenge:
Vertical Jump -- Men:
1. Caleb Stewart (36.5 inches)
2/3. (tie) Nick Brown and Ramon Brunswick (36 inches)
Pushups – Men:
1. Mikal Singletary (80 pushups)
2/3. (tie) Andrey Davidenko and Jeremy Smith (75 pushups)
Kettlebell Curls (30 pounds) – Men:
1. Jake Randolph (33 curls)
2/3. (tie) John Crib and Brian Schmitt (32 curls)
As for the women, the most pushups were performed by Trish Housten, the most curls (15 pounds) by Nikki Gnozzio, and the highest vertical jump and the best overall (adding all three scores) was Kelsey Moschetti.
Of course, the best overall scores are the most desirable. A True Alpha Male displays excellence not just in one ability, but in a variety of dimensions. The best overall scores for the men were as follows:
1. Andrey Davidenko (total score 129)
2. Brock Bronson (total 112)
3. Caleb Stewart (total 107.5)
4. Josh Salmon (total 104.5)
5. Broc Austin (total 101.5)
Congratulations to all the winners, and to everyone who participated and tried to do their best! While all the contestants referenced above are eligible to receive prizes, including True Alpha shirts and/or Alpha Male Challenge books, Andrey and Kelsey are the big winners. Andrey will receive a deluxe set of PowerBlocks, while Kelsey’s prize is a package of Arnold Sports Festival EXPO tickets for 2011 and complimentary 2 nights’ accommodations at a Columbus host hotel for next year’s show!
